The idea for Stodels Nursery flourished back in 1962 when Robert Stodel leapt into this growing industry. He decided to pursue his dream of leaving his corporate space to start a business of his own – a gardening business, that is! These humble beginnings saw Robert selling his products from a mail order catalogue, door to door visits and even directly from his van. This instant dedication and passion speak volumes to the man who built the Stodels we know today, as the business has grown a long way from the small start it faced. We now know this nursery as a trusted thriving chain of award-winning garden centres across the Western Cape.
The first Stodels Garden Centre opened its doors in 1968 and was soon followed by the Bellville branch in 1973. Since the official launch of their Milnerton branch in 2005, this franchise has been on an expansion mission that now lets its loyal customers find them in various popular locations across the Province.

Today, Stodels Garden Centre is headed by Robert’s son, Nick Stodel, who has served as the Managing Directory since 2005. Nick has continued to grow his father’s legacy and prioritises customer service above all else. He has established himself in the industry as a dynamic and ambitious leader and was the first IGCA President to be elected from the African continent and the Southern Hemisphere.
Stodels Nursery has been a consistent winner at the annual Garden Centre Awards, with the Bellville branch being highlighted as the best in the Province in 2016!
